Renewable energy firm Hero Future Energies announced on Tuesday that it has secured a 120 MW project under the Solar Energy Corporation of India's (SECI) 1,000 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy – Round-the-Clock (FDRE-RTC) auction. The project was awarded at a tariff of ₹5.25/kWh, according to a company statement.
The initiative will be developed through Hero Solar Energy under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SECI. The project is expected to be commissioned within 24 months of the PPA execution.
In accordance with the requirements of SECI's FDRE-RTC tender, the project will be integrated with an energy storage system. The underlying auction was floated by SECI in March 2026 to procure 1,000 MW of FDRE-RTC power from Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected renewable energy projects combined with energy storage systems.
The company stated that the 120 MW project will deliver firm, round-the-clock renewable power, aimed at meeting base load demand reliably while providing a competitive tariff. This development adds to Hero Future Energies' existing portfolio of work with SECI.
Srivatsan Iyer, Global CEO of Hero Future Energies, commented on the development in the statement, noting that the project reflects the company's focus on combining reliability, affordability, and sustainability.
Over the past few years, Hero Future Energies has invested in hybrid renewable projects, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and green hydrogen initiatives. The company currently holds a renewable energy portfolio of 7.2 GWp and 2.9 GWh of BESS, operating assets across solar and wind with a focus on hybrid solutions, FDRE, and storage-led offerings.
"The securing of the 120 MW FDRE-RTC capacity by Hero Future Energies highlights the growing importance of firm and dispatchable renewable energy in India's power sector. Integrating storage solutions with renewable projects is critical to addressing intermittency issues and meeting base load demand reliably. At ₹5.25/kWh, this tender demonstrates how competitive tariffs and advanced energy storage are shaping the future of grid-connected clean energy infrastructure." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
