IndiGo, India's largest domestic airline controlling more than 65% of the market, faced a technical disruption on Wednesday affecting its core reservation platform. The system failure prevented several customers from booking new flight tickets or completing online check-ins through both the airline's website and mobile application.
Journalists in at least three Indian cities attempting to use the IndiGo website encountered a “no data available” message when searching for flights. Other travel booking platforms also displayed error messages indicating that the airline systems were experiencing technical difficulties.
In a post on the social media platform X, IndiGo acknowledged the disruption and stated that its teams were working with a partner to fix the issue on priority. The airline did not identify the technology partner or specify the underlying cause of the server problems. Customers reported that the outages persisted through the morning, with customer care executives also unable to assist due to the server issues.
IndiGo advised passengers needing immediate travel assistance to contact its call centre, while passengers travelling at a later time were directed to retry the website or app after some time. The Ministry of Civil Aviation did not respond to requests for comment regarding the disruption.
This technical glitch comes months after the airline faced sharp scrutiny in December, following poor pilot roster planning that resulted in the cancellation of approximately 4,500 flights and stranded tens of thousands of passengers across India.
"Technology infrastructure is the backbone of modern aviation and service-oriented businesses. When core systems fail, customer trust and daily operations are immediately impacted. For large enterprises holding dominant market shares, maintaining robust backup systems and transparent communication channels is critical to minimizing business disruption during unexpected outages." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
