He succeeds Babasaheb Kalyani, who has chaired the company since its incorporation in 1973. According to the company's statement, the appointment is effective at the close of business hours on October 28.
Despite stepping down as chairman, Babasaheb Kalyani will continue to offer his counsel to the board. The company stated that this ongoing guidance reinforces the Kalyani Group’s vision of nation-building through manufacturing excellence.
The leadership transition is intended to position Kalyani Steels for growth in specific strategic areas, including green steel, advanced materials, and global markets.
Amit Kalyani currently serves as the Vice Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Bharat Forge Ltd. He has been associated with the Kalyani Group’s businesses for over 25 years. During his tenure, he has led the group's expansion into sectors such as aerospace, defence, electric mobility, and advanced materials. Furthermore, the company noted that he has worked closely with R K Goyal, Managing Director of Kalyani Steels, over several years to shape and drive the company's growth strategy.
Commenting on the transition, Babasaheb Kalyani said that institutions endure when leadership evolves with the times. He noted that Amit's active engagement has significantly impacted the company's growth strategy and expressed confidence that under his leadership, Kalyani Steels will build on its foundations to set new industry benchmarks.
Outlining his vision, Amit Kalyani, Chairman (Designate) of Kalyani Steels Ltd, stated that India’s manufacturing ambitions demand materials that are greener, smarter, and world-class. He added that the company will accelerate its journey in green steel, advanced materials, and digitalised operations while deepening its presence in strategic sectors and global markets.
"Planned leadership transitions in established manufacturing enterprises are critical for maintaining operational continuity while adapting to modern industry demands. Amit Kalyani's extensive experience across strategic sectors like defence, aerospace, and advanced materials positions Kalyani Steels well to pursue emerging opportunities in green steel and global markets. Retaining the foundational guidance of Babasaheb Kalyani ensures that the organization maintains its long-term vision of manufacturing excellence while executing its next phase of strategic growth." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
