Korean Machine Tool Manufacturer DN Solutions Opens First India Plant in Bengaluru

Korean machine tool manufacturer DN Solutions has inaugurated its first manufacturing plant in India, located in the Bengaluru ITIR Industrial Area in Karnataka. The facility represents the company's full deployment of its Phase 1 investment commitment of ₹600 crore, which is approximately $62 million.

This development marks DN Solutions' first overseas manufacturing investment since the establishment of its Yantai plant in China in 2003. The company noted that it is considering further investments of a similar scale in future phases, dependent on market demand and business growth. The 25-acre facility was developed in collaboration with the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB).

The newly opened site is designed to combine research and development, manufacturing, a technical center, and after-sales service. Initially, the plant will produce SVM vertical machining centers and LYNX/LEO horizontal turning centers, with plans to introduce five-axis machine production in subsequent phases. DN Solutions clarified that the Bengaluru facility is a new investment aimed at building production capacity in India rather than a relocation of existing manufacturing sites from Korea or China.

DN Solutions has a 32-year history of expanding its operations in India. The company recorded its first sales in the country in 1994, followed by the opening of its Bengaluru Technical Center in 2008 and the incorporation of its Indian subsidiary in 2016. According to the company, India is viewed as a strategic market driven by a growing domestic economy, a young population, an English-speaking workforce, and manufacturing investments supported by the Make In India initiative. Karnataka and Bengaluru were selected due to their precision manufacturing ecosystem, automation capabilities, engineering talent, and supply chain infrastructure.

Wonjong Kim, CEO of DN Solutions, stated that the company has achieved a high market share among global machine tool companies in India over more than a generation of operation and intends to continue long-term investments. He highlighted India's potential to become a global manufacturing powerhouse, supported by its demographic profile and technical talent pool.

The Bengaluru plant incorporates four key value chains: R&D, manufacturing, service, and training. The R&D center will collaborate with existing research institutes in Korea, Germany, and China, along with technical centers across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The adjacent technical center allows customers to evaluate machine performance using test cuts and customized machining solutions. Additionally, the facility houses a service office, repair shop, parts warehouse, and the DN Academy to support after-sales maintenance and reduce customer downtime.

In terms of employment, DN Solutions currently employs 240 people directly in India, with an estimated broader impact on suppliers, logistics providers, and service providers reaching at least double that figure. Over the past year, the company has recruited approximately 100 recent graduates, operating its own training center and a one-year talent development program. DN Solutions plans to scale direct employment to 500 people while partnering with customers, MSMEs, and local educational institutions to train application engineers and technicians.

Kim expressed appreciation for the support received from the Government of Karnataka and KIADB during the project development over the past two years, noting that local talent recruitment and supply chain partnerships were successfully established prior to the completion of plant construction.
