Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced that its renewable energy arm has secured a major order in West Asia worth up to ₹10,000 crore, according to a recent exchange filing.
The contract entails the development of three Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects with a combined storage capacity of 6 gigawatt-hours. Each project will feature a four-hour BESS system designed to store surplus renewable energy and dispatch it during periods of peak demand to support grid stability. According to the company, these systems will utilize liquid cooling technology to achieve higher power density, improved safety, and a longer operating life.
Commenting on the order through the exchange release, L&T stated that such projects entail stringent requirements regarding plant performance, workforce mobilization, safety, quality, and timelines. The company noted that the order reflects client trust built on its engineering excellence and project management expertise.
In a separate development earlier on Monday, L&T announced that its EPC arm, L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore (LTEH Onshore), secured a gas compression facilities project for a major client in the same region. As per the exchange filing, this project involves the engineering, procurement, and construction of gas compression plants. The scope includes gas inlet facilities, gas compression systems, condensate and produced water handling systems, propane refrigeration systems, and all related utilities. These facilities will be developed for new onshore installations to process sour gas in compliance with client standards and project codes.
Additionally, to meet the power requirements of the gas compression plants, L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution business will execute the construction of two 230 kV extra-high-voltage substations.
At the time of reporting, L&T's stock was trading at approximately ₹4,108.35, registering an increase of 23.05 points or 0.56 per cent compared to its previous close of ₹4,085.30 per share. Data from the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) indicates that as of August 25, the company's market capitalization stood at ₹5,65,480.96 crore.
"Larsen & Toubro's recent contract wins in West Asia highlight the strong global demand for large-scale renewable energy infrastructure and complex engineering execution. Securing high-value orders for both Battery Energy Storage Systems and gas compression facilities demonstrates the company's technical diversification and project management capabilities across traditional and clean energy sectors. For large conglomerates, maintaining rigorous standards in plant performance and safety remains critical to sustaining long-term international partnerships." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
