The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the results of the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) for 84 subjects, according to an update released late on Friday.
A senior NTA official stated that out of the 6.07 lakh candidates who appeared for the examination across 84 subjects, over 97,000 candidates have qualified for PhD admissions. Additionally, more than 4,000 candidates have qualified for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).
The NET is a national examination conducted by the NTA to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the role of assistant professor and for the Junior Research Fellowship in universities and colleges across India.
The announcement follows a sequence of operational adjustments by the testing agency. Earlier, the NTA ordered fresh examinations for candidates who appeared for the English, Commerce, and Sociology papers in June. This decision was taken after an expert committee identified factual, typographical, translation, and language-related errors in the original question papers.
The NTA subsequently released the UGC-NET answer key on August 16, nearly two months after the initial examination, alongside a special notice regarding the papers for Sociology, Commerce, and English. On the same day, the agency announced that the examinations for these three subjects would be conducted afresh in September.
According to the schedule, the re-examinations are set for September 9 and 10. The NTA confirmed that candidates appearing for these re-examinations will not be required to pay any additional fee.
