Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal will lead a 200-member business delegation to Japan from August 24 to 27, marking India's largest-ever business delegation to the country.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the four-day itinerary covers Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. The delegation comprises representatives from key sectors, including manufacturing, semiconductors, clean energy, steel, automotive, financial services, healthcare, and start-ups. The Ministry stated that the visit reflects the scale of ambition both nations bring to their Special Strategic and Global Partnership, aiming to significantly deepen trade and investment ties.
During the Tokyo leg of the visit, Goyal will hold bilateral discussions with Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Akazawa Ryosei. His schedule in the capital includes meetings with top executives of major Japanese industrial conglomerates and a round-table with Keidanren, the Japan Business Federation, which represents over 1,500 Japanese enterprises. Dedicated sessions will focus on emerging areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and start-ups, alongside interactions with foreign institutional investors, senior members of the Japanese Government and Parliament, and the Indian diaspora.
Following Tokyo, the delegation will travel to Nagoya, recognized as the industrial hub of Central Japan. In Nagoya, the Minister will lead a business roadshow organized in collaboration with the Central Japan Economic Federation (Chukeiren) and the Nagoya Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Engagements there include meetings with the leadership of Aichi Prefecture and major manufacturing investors from the automotive and steel sectors.
The tour will conclude in Osaka with an Investors and Business Roadshow, alongside meetings with leading Japanese corporations operating across electronics, industrial, and consumer markets.
The Ministry noted that Japan continues to serve as a key long-term partner in technology, industrial collaboration, and capital inflows across Indian infrastructure, steel, and automotive domains. Engagements in high-technology manufacturing and next-generation industries remain central to India's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat @2047, with the unprecedented 200-member delegation expected to provide fresh momentum to bilateral economic ties.
"This high-level bilateral engagement opens up significant avenues for cross-border collaboration, particularly for Indian startups looking to scale through global capital and technological partnerships. Japan's established expertise in manufacturing, semiconductors, and clean energy aligns well with India's long-term growth vision. For entrepreneurs and investors in the ecosystem, this visit underscores the growing importance of international industrial linkages and institutional investments in next-generation sectors." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
