French carmaker Renault Group is accelerating its product roadmap in India, aiming to position the country among its top three global markets. According to Stephane Deblaise, CEO of Renault Group in India, the company is moving rapidly to introduce a variety of products tailored to diverse customer demands in the region.
Despite currently holding a relatively small share in the Indian passenger-vehicle market, Renault is capitalizing on the country's market potential and engineering competencies. Earlier this year, the company announced its strategy to expand its local portfolio to seven multi-energy models by 2030.
As part of this transition, Renault is evolving its previous CMFA platform into the new Renault Group Entry Platform (RGEP). This shift is designed to address consumer expectations such as native factory-fitted CNG, newer powertrains, and next-generation digital and electronic architecture in value segments.
For scale and electrification, the automaker is utilizing the Renault Group Modular Platform (RGMP). This platform is intended to drive the next phase of growth in India while establishing the foundation for the company's broader electrification strategy.
Speaking on the pace of development, Deblaise noted that the company's actions are unfolding at a rapid pace to meet local demands. In the coming months, Renault India plans to introduce products featuring breakthrough technologies, including CNG underbodies, turbocharged engines, and hybrids, aimed at satisfying evolving customer preferences in the Indian market.
"Renault's strategic shift to leverage modular platforms and multi-energy models highlights the growing importance of the Indian market in global automotive strategies. By focusing on localized engineering competencies and diverse powertrains ranging from CNG to hybrids and EVs, legacy players are adapting to shifting consumer demands. For the broader business ecosystem, this demonstrates how global corporations must combine local adaptability with scalable architectures to secure long-term market positioning in competitive emerging economies." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
