The Rubber Board has introduced a new digital platform called 'INR Konnect' designed to connect stakeholders and facilitate the adoption of untapped natural rubber plantations, bringing them into productive tapping.
N. Hari, Chairman of the Rubber Board, inaugurated the public-facing campaign. During the launch, he emphasized the need to engage the younger generation in natural rubber cultivation. He noted that formulating programs to attract young people to the sector could also encourage new industrial ventures.
M. Vasanthagesan, Executive Director of the Rubber Board, explained the operational challenges that led to the creation of INR Konnect. The platform is designed to serve untapped plantation owners and tappers. Vasanthagesan stated that the success of the initiative depends on active stakeholder participation and invited suggestions from potential users to improve the facility's effectiveness.
The awareness campaign, titled 'Introduction of INR Konnect to Stakeholders,' was organized as part of Reforms Utsav. This is an initiative by the Government of India aimed at raising awareness about institutional reforms, promoting citizen-centric service delivery, and communicating the benefits of reform-oriented initiatives to the public and stakeholders.
According to the Rubber Board, a considerable area of natural rubber plantations remains untapped due to several factors. These include a shortage of adequate skilled tappers, limited access for interested adopters, and difficulties in connecting plantation owners with prospective tappers or adopters.
INR Konnect seeks to bridge this gap by providing a digital interface that facilitates direct connections among plantation owners, tappers, prospective adopters, and other relevant agencies. Bringing these untapped plantations under active tapping is expected to help increase natural rubber production through the optimum use of available resources.
Additionally, the platform aims to create employment and operational opportunities for rubber tappers and prospective plantation adopters, while enabling owners to maximize the utility of their existing agricultural assets.
"The launch of INR Konnect highlights the growing role of digital platforms in addressing traditional supply chain and operational bottlenecks in the agricultural sector. By bridging the gap between plantation owners, skilled tappers, and adopters through technology, the Rubber Board is addressing critical resource utilization issues. For businesses and entrepreneurs looking at agritech solutions, creating targeted digital marketplaces that solve labor shortages and optimize underutilized assets presents a viable model for improving sector-wide productivity." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
