Samsung Launches Galaxy Z Flip 8 at Galaxy Unpacked Event

Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z Flip 8 alongside three new devices at its annual Q3 flagship launch event. Positioned as the world's lightest flip device, the new smartphone arrives amid growing discussions surrounding the market viability of clamshell form factors versus pricier book-type foldables.

Samsung altered its standard launch cadence at this year’s Galaxy Unpacked event by introducing three devices, including the new format Z Fold 8 and the flagship Z Flip 8. The new clamshell device enters the market as consumer data indicates that flip foldables face increasing competition from higher-priced book-type foldables and upcoming market entrants.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 is priced with a ₹15,000 increase over the launch price of its predecessor, the Z Flip 7, which started at ₹1,09,999 in 2025. Weighing 180 grams, Samsung has reduced the weight by 8 grams compared to the previous model, while making the device 0.6 mm thinner when folded. It features an armor aluminum frame and IP48 dust and water protection.

The device is equipped with a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover display with a peak brightness of 2,600 nits and a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display matching the same peak brightness. Running on Samsung's One UI 9, the cover display incorporates the 'Now Brief' feature to provide quick access to notifications and alerts.

In terms of camera specifications, the rear setup combines a 50MP primary lens with an aperture of f/1.8 alongside a 12MP ultra-wide camera. The front-facing capability supports hands-free shooting enabled by FlexCam portraits.

Under the hood, the Indian and European variants of the Z Flip 8 are powered by the Exynos 2,600 chipset, whereas the North American version utilizes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The device offers two storage variants consisting of 12GB/256GB and 12GB/512GB options, backed by a seven-year OS update policy and various built-in AI tools.

The Z Flip 8 transitions to a silicon carbon battery, delivering a 4,300 mAh capacity designed to support a full day of usage. Charging speeds remain capped at 25W for wired charging and 15W for wireless charging, requiring approximately 90 minutes to charge from 1 to 100 percent.
