Singareni Collieries Company Limited has officially commenced a gold and copper mining exploration programme at the Devadurga block in Karnataka's Raichur district. The initiative follows the state-owned firm securing exploration rights through central government tenders.

The Telangana government has officially launched a gold and copper mining exploration programme at the Devadurga block located in Karnataka. The initiative is being executed by the state-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), which secured the exploration rights for the block through tenders conducted by the central government.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka launched the initiative on Thursday at Lingadahalli village in the Raichur district. Following the launch, the Deputy Chief Minister conducted an on-ground inspection of the mineral exploration sites and reviewed mineral samples displayed by Singareni officials.

During the visit, Vikramarka stated that Singareni would soon accelerate exploration activities at the site. To facilitate this, the company plans to establish a local site office at Devadurga to enable officials to monitor operations closely. Additionally, a helipad is planned for the location, with construction set to begin once local revenue authorities allot the required land.

The Deputy Chief Minister noted that the project could create employment opportunities for unemployed youth in the region and contribute to local development, provided significant quantities of minerals are discovered. He also appealed to local residents to cooperate with the project.

Singareni CMD Buddha Prakash Jyothi expressed satisfaction over the commencement of the exploration activities. SCCL is a government-owned coal mining company operated jointly by the Telangana government and the Union Government on a 51:49 equity basis, drawing on nearly 136 years of operational experience in the mining sector.

"The expansion of state-owned enterprises into mineral exploration beyond their home state highlights a strategic shift toward resource diversification. With Singareni leveraging its long-standing mining expertise into gold and copper exploration, this project underscores the importance of institutional capability in executing complex resource extraction initiatives. Successful execution will depend heavily on efficient site management, timely land allotments, and strong coordination between state authorities and local communities." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
