Torrent Gas is aiming to file updated draft papers for an initial public offering (IPO) of up to ₹4,000 crore ($418.09 million) as early as this week, according to two sources familiar with the matter who spoke to Reuters.
The Ahmedabad-based company is part of the Torrent Group, whose existing listed entities include Torrent Power and Torrent Pharma. Torrent Gas currently supplies piped natural gas (PNG) to households and industries across eight states and one union territory in India.
According to the company's website, Torrent Gas supplies PNG to over 200,000 households and more than 1,300 industries. Additionally, the firm operates approximately 500 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations.
Markets regulator SEBI had previously approved Torrent Gas' confidential IPO filing in June. Under a confidential filing structure, companies are permitted to submit their draft IPO papers to the regulator for review without making them public until they decide to advance with the offering. The updated draft red herring prospectus, expected to be filed this week, will mark the company’s first public IPO document.
Torrent Gas did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding its IPO plans.
The upcoming filing arrives at a time when India’s primary market activity has experienced a substantial resurgence following a muted first half of the year, which was impacted by a crude oil price spike driven by the Iran conflict. Market data shows that as many as 27 companies have either launched or announced their IPOs since July, nearly matching the 28 public offerings recorded during the entire first half of 2026.
"The decision by Torrent Gas to move forward with its public listing highlights the growing confidence in India's primary markets as activity rebounds from earlier headwinds. Confidential filings provide established companies with a structured pathway to navigate regulatory reviews discreetly before going public. As capital markets become increasingly receptive, large-scale infrastructure and energy players are well-positioned to leverage public funding for expansion." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
