US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor indicated on Wednesday that Washington may reconsider its existing travel advisory for Jammu and Kashmir following a meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar. The discussions, held during Gor's two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, centered primarily on expanding economic cooperation and fostering business opportunities between the United States and the region.
While stopping short of announcing immediate changes, Gor stated that the US government periodically reviews its travel warnings and will examine whether the warning for Jammu and Kashmir can be downgraded. He highlighted the security measures implemented by both the central and local governments, noting the region's progress in improving safety.
"The government has taken incredible steps to make this area safer. So, we will look at whether the travel warning imposed by the US should be downgraded," Gor said, adding that the area's natural beauty offers significant appeal and opportunity for American visitors.
The ambassador later shared details of the meeting on social media, emphasizing mutual economic benefits. In a post on X, Gor stated that the talks explored avenues to deepen economic collaboration and create opportunities benefiting both nations.
