Italian motorcycle and scooter manufacturer Aprilia has expanded its product portfolio with the introduction of the SXR GT 175. Positioned as an evolution of the existing SXR 160, the new model introduces a higher-displacement engine, a revised chassis, larger 14-inch wheels, updated connectivity features, and revised performance capabilities.
The SXR GT 175 is powered by a 174.7 cc, 3-valve motor that delivers 13 bhp and 1.4 kg-m of torque. According to the specifications, the scooter is capable of crossing 100 kph when the throttle is kept pinned. Aprilia also offers an SXR GT 125 variant for buyers seeking similar visual styling with a lower price point and potentially higher fuel efficiency.
On the design and utility front, the SXR GT 175 features an 800 mm seat height and 170 mm of ground clearance, supported by its larger wheels. The vehicle includes a 5-inch colour TFT display with Bluetooth functionality, call and notification alerts, and navigation prompts. However, practical compromises include a less intuitive key slot, a non-centrally controlled seat-opening function, and limited underseat storage.
The handling retains Aprilia's characteristic cornering dynamics, though reviewers noted that the front end feels firm over rough road surfaces. The introductory ex-showroom price is set at ₹1.29 lakh.
"The launch of the Aprilia SXR GT 175 reflects a targeted strategy to cater to consumers seeking performance-oriented commuting options. By upgrading displacement, chassis design, and connectivity features while maintaining an accessible price point, the company is attempting to carve out a specific niche within the competitive two-wheeler market. For businesses in the automotive sector, continuous product evolution and addressing consumer performance preferences remain key drivers of market engagement." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
