MUMBAI — Gaja Alternative Asset Management has received regulatory approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to register Gaja Capital India Fund V as a Category II Alternative Investment Fund (AIF).
Under the terms of the approval, Gaja Alternative Asset Management will act as the investment manager to the newly registered fund. The fund's operational term will commence from its initial closing and run for a duration of 10 years. Additionally, the structure includes an option to extend the fund's term by two additional one-year periods.
The establishment of Gaja Capital India Fund V is part of the firm's broader strategy to expand its operations, develop new funds, and execute its ongoing business and growth strategies within the market.
This regulatory milestone comes less than a week after Gaja Alternative Asset Management completed its stock market debut, which took place last Wednesday.
"Securing SEBI approval for a Category II Alternative Investment Fund is a crucial step for asset managers looking to scale their operations and deploy capital systematically. Coming right on the heels of their stock market debut, this development highlights Gaja Alternative Asset Management's focus on expanding its fund portfolio and executing its long-term growth strategy within the Indian financial ecosystem. A ten-year fund term, with provisions for extensions, provides the necessary horizon for long-term investments." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
