Hyundai has introduced the Bayon SUV in India, positioned between the sub-four-metre Venue and the upcoming next-generation Creta. Available across seven variants, the vehicle is priced from ₹10 lakh to ₹18.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

Automobile manufacturer Hyundai has expanded its vehicle lineup with the launch of the Bayon SUV. Positioned to slot directly beneath the upcoming next-generation Creta and above the sub-four-metre Venue, the new vehicle aims to address a specific gap in the company's catalogue.

The Bayon is offered with a single engine option: a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated unit producing 113 bhp at 6300 rpm and 17.7 kg-m at 4500 rpm. Transmission duties are handled by an 'intelligent variable transmission' (IVT), which utilizes a steel chain instead of a traditional rubber belt. The model is currently available across seven variants, with pricing ranging from ₹10 lakh to ₹18.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). A CNG variant is scheduled for release in January 2027, though turbo, diesel, and hybrid configurations are not currently offered.

Measuring its market positioning, the vehicle's presentation referenced the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, signaling clear competitive intentions within the segment. The model features a design language incorporating creases and slashes, complemented by 17-inch diamond-cut wheels and 215/55 R17 tyres.

Inside the cabin, the Bayon is equipped with twin 12.3-inch screens for driving information and infotainment, cooled front seats, and a Bose sound system. Technology features include Level 2 ADAS, high-beam assist, a steering-mounted drive-mode button, and an AI-powered assistant via Perplexity. Additional amenities include a panoramic sunroof and a two-step reclining rear seat.

On the road, the vehicle utilizes three drive modes—Eco, Normal, and Sport—alongside paddle shifters and a 'dash boost' mode. Its dynamic setup features a firmer suspension calibration, designed to offer planted high-speed stability and pliant lower-speed handling.

"Hyundai's strategic placement of the Bayon between the Venue and the upcoming Creta demonstrates a calculated approach to portfolio expansion and market capture. By targeting specific white spaces in the automotive segment and offering a comprehensive feature list alongside diverse variant pricing, the company is effectively addressing the evolving preferences of consumers while maximizing its catalog efficiency." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
