India and Uzbekistan Elevate Bilateral Ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Sunday conferred with Uzbekistan's prestigious ‘Oliy Darajali Do’stlik’ Order by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Kuksaroy Presidential Palace in Tashkent.

Modi is currently on a two-day visit to Uzbekistan aimed at strengthening bilateral ties across multiple sectors, including trade, clean energy, and connectivity. Following formal talks between the two leaders, India and Uzbekistan officially decided to elevate their diplomatic relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

Accepting the honor, Prime Minister Modi dedicated the award to the 1.4 billion citizens of India and the centuries-old heritage shared between the two nations. In his remarks, he noted that the word 'Dostlik,' meaning friendship, resonates deeply within Indian households and aptly captures the sentiment underlying the relationship between India and Uzbekistan.

During his visit, discussions centered on expanding cooperation in trade, clean energy, and regional connectivity. Following the conclusion of his engagements in Tashkent, the prime minister is scheduled to travel to Kyrgyzstan to participate in the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, which takes place from August 31 to September 1.
