E-commerce marketplace Meesho has announced that it expects to create over 10 lakh seasonal job opportunities across its seller and logistics ecosystem. The projected employment generation is aimed at meeting the surge in demand during the upcoming festive season.
According to the company, the total projected employment includes approximately 6.5 lakh jobs across its seller network and about 3.75 lakh roles across its logistics operations.
Nearly 1.3 lakh sellers are expected to hire seasonal workers across various functions, including packaging, manufacturing, production, warehousing, and inventory management. Sellers will utilize this workforce to build inventory, launch new products, and expand their festive collections.
In the logistics sector, Meesho's in-house logistics platform, Valmo, alongside its third-party logistics partners, is scaling up capacity to handle the festive volume. Seasonal roles in this segment will span delivery, sortation, delivery centre operations, and supervisory functions.
The announcement coincides with a period when major e-commerce players in India typically gear up for annual festive sales, which account for a significant portion of their yearly transaction volumes.
"The large-scale creation of seasonal jobs by platforms like Meesho highlights the broader economic impact of the festive shopping season on India's retail and supply chain sectors. Scaling up operations across both manufacturing and logistics demonstrates how e-commerce growth directly translates into employment opportunities at the grassroots level for sellers and delivery partners alike." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
