The All India Council for Technical Education has introduced four funding schemes for the academic year 2026–27. The initiatives aim to upgrade technical institution infrastructure, modernise laboratories, and promote practical learning and research among students.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has introduced four distinct schemes for the academic year 2026–27, aimed at strengthening infrastructure, promoting practical learning, and improving research quality across technical institutions.

Under these new schemes, eligible institutions will receive financial assistance from the council. The initiatives are designed to encourage student innovation, upgrade laboratory facilities, facilitate academic exchanges, and help institutions enhance their overall teaching practices.

The four announced initiatives include the IDEA Lab, the Grant for Organizing Conference (GOC), Modernization and Re-structuring for Outcome Based System (MODROBS), and the Margdarshan Scheme.

During the launch event, AICTE Chairman Prof Yogesh Singh stated that educational institutions need to build a research-oriented and innovation-driven culture. He noted that IDEA Labs would help students translate new ideas into practical solutions, while also calling for a re-evaluation of current teaching methods to make classrooms more interactive and student-centric.

Prof Singh further emphasized that faculty members should utilize technology and artificial intelligence tools to improve the learning process. Additionally, he noted that academic conferences should focus on the country's priority areas to encourage meaningful knowledge exchange.

Each scheme targets a specific area of technical education development:

IDEA Lab: This scheme encourages students to apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts to real-world challenges through hands-on learning experiences.

Grant for Organizing Conference (GOC): This initiative supports knowledge sharing and academic exchange among researchers, academicians, and experts through national and international conferences.

Modernization and Re-structuring for Outcome Based System (MODROBS): This program provides financial support to modernize workshops, laboratories, and computing facilities, thereby strengthening industry-oriented education, research, and practical learning.

Margdarshan Scheme: This framework facilitates mentoring by well-established and centrally funded institutions. It is designed to help other colleges improve their academic practices, share institutional resources, enhance performance, and improve their National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings.

"The introduction of structured funding schemes by AICTE for the 2026–27 academic year presents a valuable opportunity for technical institutions to upgrade their core infrastructure and research capabilities. Programs like MODROBS and IDEA Labs directly address the gap between theoretical learning and industry requirements by focusing on practical application and modernized laboratories. For institutions and the broader technical ecosystem, leveraging these grants effectively will be crucial in building a more competent, innovation-ready workforce that meets modern industry standards." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
