As bidding enters its final day, the Jio Platforms initial public offering has been subscribed 5.98 times overall. Demand is led by qualified institutional buyers and non-institutional investors, though the mega offering has also caused a shift in market liquidity.

NEW DELHI — The initial public offering (IPO) of telecom major Jio Platforms has witnessed strong traction as bidding entered its final day, recording an overall subscription of 5.98 times.

Data from the final day of bidding indicates varied levels of demand across different investor categories. Qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) led the subscription numbers, registering strong interest with demand crossing over 13 times. Non-institutional investors (NIIs) also saw robust participation, subscribed over 7 to 8 times across updates, with specific bids ranging above ₹2 lakh and up to ₹10 lakh recording steady traction.

Retail individual investors (RIIs) recorded a subscription of nearly 1.9 times by the close of the tracking period. The scale of the mega offering has drawn significant attention from market participants, tracing the company's trajectory since its commercial launch in September 2016, which marked a major inflection point for the telecommunications sector.

Market observers have noted that the sheer scale of the Jio Platforms IPO has created a noticeable shift in market liquidity, impacting investor bandwidth for other listed stocks and weighing on broader market movements. Industry analysts are closely examining the company's financial metrics, including its profit margins—which rank among the highest globally for telecom operators—alongside close peer Bharti Airtel. Experts suggest that assessing Jio's valuation premium requires a nuanced evaluation of its market dominance and sector positioning.

"The massive institutional and non-institutional demand for the Jio Platforms IPO highlights strong investor confidence in the telecom sector's market leaders. However, mega-sized public offerings of this scale naturally cause a short-term shift in market liquidity, momentarily drawing capital away from other listed equities. Investors and analysts must evaluate such offerings by looking beyond short-term subscription numbers, focusing instead on long-term sustainability, profit margins, and justified valuation premiums in a competitive market environment." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
