Multi Commodity Exchange of India has posted a consolidated net profit of ₹455 crore for the September quarter of FY27, compared to ₹197.47 crore in the corresponding period last year. The growth was supported by higher income, increased market participation, and a sharp rise in futures and options trading volumes.

NEW DELHI: Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) has reported a more than two-fold increase in its consolidated net profit, reaching ₹455 crore for the September quarter of FY27. The financial performance marks a significant jump from the net profit of ₹197.47 crore recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal year, according to a regulatory filing by the exchange.

The strong bottom-line growth was supported by a sharp rise in total income, which climbed to ₹799.66 crore during the quarter under review from ₹374.23 crore a year earlier. Meanwhile, total expenses for the exchange rose to ₹211.36 crore, compared to ₹150.41 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.

On the operational front, MCX witnessed substantial activity across its trading segments. The Average Daily Turnover (ADT) for futures climbed to ₹62,819 crore during the quarter, while the ADT for options rose to ₹12,00,129 crore.

In addition to financial and turnover growth, the exchange recorded notable physical deliveries during the quarter. This included 5.68 tonnes of gold, 199.91 tonnes of silver, and 34,707 tonnes of base metals.

Commenting on the performance, Praveena Rai, MD and CEO of MCX, stated that the strong Q2 results reflect the continued trust of market participants and the growing relevance of the exchange within the commodity ecosystem. She attributed the results to sustained growth across product segments, higher overall market participation, and ongoing efforts to widen the product basket.

Looking ahead, Rai noted that the exchange's focus remains on building upon this foundation by broadening market participation, expanding its product portfolio, and investing further in technology and innovation.

"The financial performance of MCX highlights a robust increase in market participation and liquidity within the Indian commodity derivatives segment. A more than two-fold rise in net profit, backed by substantial growth in both futures and options turnover, demonstrates how higher trading volumes directly impact exchange revenues. As exchanges continue to scale, sustained investments in robust technology infrastructure and continuous expansion of the product basket will be critical to maintaining this growth momentum and managing higher market activity efficiently." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
