The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Digital India BHASHINI division on Tuesday. The agreement allows SEBI to utilize BHASHINI's language translation APIs, models, and tools—such as automatic speech recognition, text-to-speech, machine translation, and optical character recognition—to facilitate access to its services in regional languages. Additionally, the collaboration will help enhance BHASHINI's language models with specific securities market terminology.

A recent report by Nomura addressed investor concerns regarding Big Tech's heavy capital expenditure on AI infrastructure and its impact on free cash flow. Nomura argues that AI infrastructure is already highly profitable, and the current financial pressure stems from a timing mismatch where upfront capital expenditure on data centers, GPUs, and networking precedes revenue and cash generation. According to the report, Google Cloud reported revenue of $30.7 billion, representing a 103% year-over-year increase. Nomura suggests that hyperscalers may utilize alternative financing structures—such as joint ventures, operating leases, and project financing—to support ongoing infrastructure development without necessarily reducing overall spending.
"The integration of regional language tools by SEBI via BHASHINI marks a progressive step toward widening financial inclusion in India's capital markets. On the corporate and macroeconomic front, the duality between high capital expenditure on AI infrastructure and near-term free cash flow pressures highlights the importance of strategic financial structuring for large enterprises. Investors must carefully evaluate timing and alternative funding models when assessing long-term technology and pharmaceutical sector valuations." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
