The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) on Tuesday updated the revised maximum retail price (MRP) list for 1,085 anti-cancer medicines across various brands, with the changes becoming effective from November 9.
This update follows an earlier announcement made by the drug price regulator on October 28, which had downwardly revised the MRP for 543 anti-cancer medicines. According to an official update shared by the NPPA on the platform X, the total number of such drugs in the revised list now stands at 1,085.
The regulator stated that the updated list reflects information submitted by pharmaceutical companies up to November 3. The pricing authority further noted that the list will continue to be updated dynamically as and when manufacturers submit their respective revised prices for non-scheduled anti-cancer drugs.
The current price revisions are part of a broader regulatory movement initiated by the NPPA. Specifically, the adjustments follow the pricing authority's October 17 announcement, which enforced trade margin rationalisation on 137 non-scheduled anti-cancer drugs.
Pharmaceutical companies and stakeholders are required to adhere to these regulatory revisions as the NPPA continues to process and publish updated manufacturer submissions regarding non-scheduled drug pricing.
"The ongoing price revisions and trade margin rationalisation by the NPPA highlight the changing regulatory landscape for the pharmaceutical sector in India. For businesses operating in healthcare and life sciences, strict compliance with price capping and margin structures is critical. Companies must carefully navigate these regulatory adjustments while maintaining operational viability and supply chain efficiency for essential medications like anti-cancer treatments." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
