JAMMU — A high-level coordination meeting took place on Saturday between the Directorate of Industries and Commerce, Jammu, and the Jammu Division of Northern Railway. The primary objective of the meeting was to develop an efficient, cost-effective, and fully integrated logistics and supply chain system in the region.
According to a railway spokesperson, the meeting brought together senior government officials, railway policymakers, and representatives of the industrial sector. Discussions centered on ways to improve freight transportation, enhance railway connectivity, and address logistical challenges faced by local manufacturers, traders, and industrial establishments.
The spokesperson noted that the meeting was organized to establish stronger institutional coordination between the Directorate of Industries and Commerce, local manufacturing units, and Indian Railways. This collaboration aims to ensure that the region's growing industrial requirements are adequately supported by modern and reliable transportation infrastructure.
The deliberations were aligned with the objectives of the National Logistics Policy (NLP). The policy seeks to reduce logistics costs, improve operational efficiency, promote multimodal transportation, and enhance the competitiveness of businesses across the country.
Highlighting their shared strategy, both departments discussed how future cargo terminals, dedicated industrial sidings, and paperless digital tracking systems will be integrated with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan. This integration is intended to ensure seamless last-mile connectivity for regional manufacturing hubs, the spokesperson added.
"The collaboration between the Directorate of Industries and Commerce in Jammu and Northern Railway marks a positive step toward addressing key operational hurdles for regional manufacturers. By aligning local infrastructure efforts with the National Logistics Policy and the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, businesses in the region can look forward to improved freight transportation, reduced logistics costs, and better integration with broader supply chain networks. For growing industrial hubs, reliable last-mile connectivity and modern cargo infrastructure are essential to maintaining long-term competitiveness." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
