Superstar Rajinikanth's action drama 'Jailer 2' has crossed ₹549 crore in global gross collections within seven days of its release. Production banner Sun Pictures reported that the film has set a new record for the highest first-week collections in Tamil cinema history.

Superstar Rajinikanth's latest film, 'Jailer 2', has crossed over ₹549 crore in gross collections worldwide during its first week in theaters. Production banner Sun Pictures announced the milestone on Thursday evening, describing the action drama directed by Nelson Dilipkumar as an industry milestone.

According to the production house, the movie has set a new record for the highest first-week collections in the history of Tamil cinema. Released on October 15, the film serves as the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster 'Jailer', which starred Rajinikanth as the retired jailer Muthuvel Pandian.

The narrative of the sequel follows the protagonist, also known as Tiger, whose peaceful life is disrupted by a new threat emerging from the criminal underworld. The project reunites Rajinikanth with director Nelson and music composer Anirudh Ravichander, both of whom worked on the first installment. The film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner.

The ensemble cast features returning actors including Ramya Krishnan as Rajinikanth's wife, alongside Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, and Vinayakan. The sequel also incorporates cross-industry casting, featuring Malayalam actor Mohanlal and Kannada star Shiva Rajkumar reprising their roles from the original movie.

Additional cast members in the sequel include Vidya Balan, S J Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Jatin Sarna.

"The massive box office performance of 'Jailer 2' highlights the robust commercial viability and strong consumer demand within the entertainment sector. Achieving over ₹549 crore globally in just one week demonstrates how established intellectual property and cross-industry star power can drive significant revenue generation and market impact in the regional film industry." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
